Royal 1000
Transistorized Trans-Oceanic

The Royal 1000 was the first transistorized Trans-Oceanic made by Zenith Radio.  It was an obvious departure from the larger tube models.  This new design set forth an entire transistorized series of radios that were continually updated with more features and more bands.  The Royal 1000 was an AM and Short-wave only radio.  It also was only battery operable.  The batteries fit into a plastic holder in the rear of the radio and since this was a transistorized radio, the current drain was so much less than the earlier tube models that this allowed them to use standard "D" cells to run this new radio.
