NEW BOOKS - The REA TOP-5 List

REA has selected 5 top new books for sale about antique radios, repair and restoration, specific brands, historical information and radio values.  These books are stocked for immediate shipment.  They are, in our opinion, the best 5 books that radio fanatics or wannabe fanatics should have.  We have other books as well, so keep scrolling to the end . . .

6th Edition of Collectors Guide to Antique Radio - by John Slusser.  This book is perhaps the beginners start for seeing the wide variety of radios that were built and many of their pictures and descriptions.  This book has general price guidelines and price ranges that one might expect to pay for a radio in fair to decent condition, not necessarily working.  The prices are averages from antique radio sales, flea markets, antique stores and the like.  The prices are (in our opinion) far lower than what clean radios that work well bring on the market and are far - far from prices that restored great examples of the radio art will bring on the open market.  But after saying that, it is at least a place to start and seems to be the book that most beginners to this hobby buy first . . . .This is the 6th Edition of this fabulous book

The Zenith Trans-Oceanic - The Royalty of Radios by Bryant and Cones.  Very few of us will not run across one of the Zenith Trans-Oceanic radios in our hobby.  Few radios ever built have the allure of the Zenith Trans-Oceanic radios for world-wide reception.  This great books covers some of the most minute details that have been extracted from the past from the radio professors, Bryant and Cones.  The book is a testament to their tenacity in digging out wonderful information from the past on these great radios.  Few radio manufacturers, if any, had a founder that was as flamboyant as Commander McDonald of Zenith Radio fame and he was an expert at extracting great press and advertising for his company's radios and his famous expeditions.  This is an entrancing story that will keep you reading and wanting to collect Trans-Oceanic radios.

ZENITH RADIO 1919-1935 - The Early Years, another great book by the radio professors Bryant and Cones, this has a complete history of Zenith radio and more history than you can image packed in a colorful, beautifully illustrated book.  There will be a sequel to this book for the later years but will be most probably next year before it is ready.  The most wonderful years of Zenith were, of course, in the early years and the unbelievable quality of the wood table and console models along with staggering imaginative designs pushed Zenith to ..... "the Zenith of the radio world"!  This a great book for reading and extracting early historical information and is tops in our list of books . . .

Radios by Hallicrafter's - by Chuck Dachis.  Chuck Dachis is undoubtedly the most widely known collector of Hallicrafters and has been known for decades as "The Hallicrafter's Collector".  In fact he coined that phrase several decades ago.  He has a wonderful, actually quite unbelievable collection of radios manufactured by Hallicrafters during their long tenure in the radio manufacturing business.  As far as communication short wave radios was concerned, no one even came close to making the number and depth of various models of these wonderful old receivers.  This book is a chronology of the history of Hallicrafters and minute detail covering literally everything that they manufactured over decades of making radios.  Now in its second edition, REA is proud to offer this expanded 2nd edition book on the world of Hallicrafter's radios - a great book for every shelf !
