The hallicrafters
CD-ROM
ISBN 1-928848-3406
Well Radio
Fans, here we go again. Radio Era Archives is proud to present a
CD-ROM archive of Hallicrafters information that has taken several
years to accumulate. On a single CD-ROM, there are approximately
125 manuals and Hallicrafters radio information of the most prevalent
models.
We all know
that Hallicrafters was a very prolific long-lived company that made a
very wide range of diverse electronic equipment including radios,
communications equipment, marine communications equipment, military
electronics and even television receivers as well as other equipment.
This CD's
purpose is to preserve on a single CD-ROM most of the manuals for
equipment that you might be likely to find at flea markets, ham sales,
barn or yard sales, estate sales and wherever else you care to pick
them up. While there is a lot of this equipment "out
there", much of it has been discarded, mistreated or relegated to
the scrap pile and will not be in very good condition. In the
past ten years, there has been a surge of interest by electronic
oriented people, radio fans and ham radio fanatics in collecting and
even restoring old radio equipment that has been called
"boat-anchor" equipment, since much of it is very large and
very heavy. The radio shown above is the RBK-15, which is a
militarized version of their commercial receiver the S36-A. This
old boatanchor weighs near 90 pounds, so I guess you get my drift when
I say "Heavy - Heavy - Heavy".
Since
Hallicrafters produced so many radios and various kinds of equipment,
this CD is not going to be anywhere near complete, nor could we even
possibly put the manuals and schematics of all of their equipment on 4
or 5 CD's, much less on a single one. So the idea was to put as
many of the more common receivers and transmitters and related
equipment that you might encounter on a single CD-ROM as a resource
for studying, repairing, operating or restoring this great old
equipment. We might also tell you that not all of these manuals
are going to be easy reading. It has been a gargantuan task in
even finding all that we have found and we have gathered them from the
actual manuals to having people send us files of their own personal
scans that used perhaps less than industrial quality equipment, but
the important thing is to gather it all together in an easy to use
manner so that you can use the information as a resource when and
where you need it. Until we find better copies, this is the best
that we have but if we can make some significant quality increases in
the future, we will release a later revision of this CD incorporating
those changes. For those who want more information, historical
information and pictures of Hallicrafters radios, may we suggest that
you purchase a copy of Radios by Hallicrafters by Chuck Dachis, who
for years has been known as the Hallicrafters Collector. For all
practical purposes this book @ $ 29.95 is the "Bible" of
information of Hallicrafters and is more than worth what they charge
for it. See a picture of the Dachis "Hallicrafters
Museum" in Austin, Texas by clicking "HERE".
We have this book available that you can purchase on-line at http://www.radioera.com/order.htm
and just fill in that you want this book with the rest of the
information on the order form. Because of the high quality and
depth of this book, we will not attempt to reproduce any of its
information on this CD-ROM because it basically covers everything
except what we are producing for this CD. The following is a
listing of models covered in this CD-ROM publication:
