Marine Radio Museum This web museum is dedicated to the Maritime Radio Operations by the thousands of ships that have used radio equipment for their primary communication on their varied missions. In particular, Radio Era Archives has been looking for almost 10 years to archive marine radio manuals but until recently have been pretty much unsuccessful in finding a large number of marine radio manuals. Thanks to a seasoned marine radioman, Richard East of Mississippi, Radio Era Archives is now the proud possessor of two RCA marine transmitters as well as a pile of marine radio manuals. So this museum is dedicated to his generous donation of equipment and manuals . . . The history of the ship that this equipment was installed in and its history was through our efforts . .
We have broken down this museum into two parts . . . . Historical and Radio Equipment. Click for your interest, but you should visit the historical area so you can understand just where this equipment came from, what kind of ship it is, how old it is and some really interesting information about how it is being used even today. As far as the radio equipment is concerned, all of the radio equipment and in fact, the entire radio room, was dismantled in the late 1990's, removed and replaced with new updated equipment. The equipment that was removed was designed, built by and installed by RCA and its Radiomarine Communications Division. The equipment was installed in 1955 and removed in 1998. 43 years is a long time in service for equipment used on the high seas and subjected to humidity and salty atmosphere. Quite a tribute to RCA's engineering expertise. Click the links below to go to the two sections of the Marine Museum . . . .
