EXCEPTIONAL COLLINS RADIO
"GOLD-DUST TWINS",
75A4, KWS-1 AND MORE !
Rarely will you find
a cleaner, original Collins receiver and transmitter. The Collins
75A-4 is CCA Grade Excellent Condition and the KWS-1 Transmitter is
in the same condition. Both these vintage and prized items are
generally known as the "Gold-Dust Twins"! A Collins 270G-3 speaker matches to the 75A-4 receiver. As you will see in the
pictures, the units are all original, pristine on the inside and outside
and look like they have been in a time-warp for the past 50 years!
This set of "Gold-Dust Twins" was owned by a Dr. Gragg, K6FY (SK) and
this set had very little use and was stored most of its life.
Before they were obtained from his estate 9 months ago, they were
aligned and tuned up by a Norm Johnson and Bill Sully and they had to do
nothing to them other than peak them up as they were both in
excellent operating condition. The KWS-1 is stock and unmodified.
The 75A-4 has all 3 mechanical filters and the 4:1 VFO reduction dial
assembly! In addition to the transmitter, power supply, fan hose,
receiver and matching speaker, there is a full set of spare tubes for
the receiver and transmitter including a set of final amplifier tubes. But it is time
to thin out some of the heavy metal that we have accumulated and we think the pictures
will tell the story better than words.

The St. James paint is as pristine as
we've ever seen and the only slight blemish is at the rear
of the back of the top cover and it appears to be a slight smudge
although in most lighting
it is un-noticable.

The inside of the receiver is so
clean you could eat off of it. Notice the mil-spec tube shields
and that all three mechanical filters are installed and locked down in proper position.

The inside condition of this receiver
is so clean that you can almost see "ART'S" breath
on the components. Truly it looks like it just came off the
assembly line 50 years ago!

Even the back is in mint condition,
with all original equipment and perfect lettering.

Just in case you didn't see the late
serial number of this beauty!

There is a little dust on the
matching speaker but the St. James Gray paint is in mint condition.

Backside of the matching speaker - a
little dust but immaculate!

The KWS-1 is the transmitter/exciter
and is in equal pristine condition

Ever see St. James Gray any nicer than this?

Inside the KWS-1 Power Supply - Pristine - Mint

KWS-1 power supply - some wear signs (shipping) on it,
some touchup will make it like new

Some chaffing done in shipment - St. James touchup
will correct it

Minor paint problems occured in shipment

Transmitter on Power Supply, very nice looking
overall

Another Picture of KWS-1 power supply - Immaculate
!

It doesn't get any nicer than this folks . . .
Collins Radio at its finest !

So clean Art would be proud _ Final Amp Section

This system was fully tested, broken down, packed
for shipment and has been in storage waiting for more space to display
it, but we are downsizing our office space and just don't have the space
to devote to this fabulous setup. The knobs and all tubes were
removed for shipment The power supply will be shipped in one
carton, the transmitter exciter in
another, the 75A-4 in another and the speaker in a 4th carton. The
small parts, cable assemblies and tubes will be shipped along with two
long rubber hoses (final amp blower from power supply to transmitter
head) and manuals in yet another box, so the entire system will consist
of 5 cartons. We estimate shipping on all to run about $ 300
- $400
in the USA, obviously more if exported. The shipping charges are
only estimates as all must be repacked, weighed before a final price can
be determined. All shipments are FOB our
dock in Dallas, Texas, USA. We would not recommend shipment by
UPS or Federal Express but Bax Global Air can transport this just about
anywhere at reasonable rates from our dock to the closest Bax Global
office (in every major airport in the USA and most large overseas
airports as well) near your address. We have shipped many heavy items with
high value insured with Bax to Europe and to Asia without
incident, damage or loss. Like all older equipment, we will sell
this pair of Gold Dust Twins as is but guarantee our description and
pictures to be accurate. If you are within 1000 miles of Dallas,
you might consider a trip to pick up these beauties yourself. It
just doesn't get any better than this. Once again here is what you
get:
- Collins 75A-4 Receiver w/3-mechanical
filters & 4:1 reduction dial assy
- Collins KWS-1 exciter head
- Collins KWS-1 power supply
- Fan hose to couple exciter to power
supply
- Collins 270-G3 speaker
- Complete cabling assy w/Dow-Key relay
- Spare Set of Tubes for everything
- Original set of owners manuals
An interesting note. These beauties were
built between 1955 and 1958. Only 1600 KWS-1's were ever built
and both the 75A4 and KWS-1 when new cost $ 2500 + options.
We are asking $ 7,500 for this set up but if you will track mid 1950's
prices to the consumer price index values of 2008, the multipler is
about 10x, so in today's dollars, this setup would cost at least $
25,000.00 ! What a bargain ! No?
SORRY, IT'S SOLD

Thanks
for bidding and good luck in the auction. |
