Trans-Oceanic 600 Series

The 600 series was manufactured between 1954 and 1962. There were various runs made including the L600, R600, T600, Y600, A600 and B600. All were manufactured with the black fabric covering, but there were brown leather variations usually called, as an example, as T600L with L indicating leather. It is virtually impossible to see any differences between the various models, however, each series had a different chassis number sequence with improvements being made along the way with the B600 being the last one made before moving into the age of transistorization. The slide rule dial was a departure from the earlier models as the older "airplane" style dial, although quite stylish, was more difficult to tune and to understand which band you were tuning. The slide rule dial changed all of that as it was very obvious which band you were on. These Trans-Oceanic radios were very popular and Zenith manufactured some 270,000 of the various versions. The Military R520A/URR is a very rare, ruggedized version of the 600 series radios, shown in the museum.

The below views are of the highly desirable top grain brown cowhide covering. Other than the covering of leather versus fabric and the coloring that matches the outer covering of the radio, there are no other differences

Rear View Model T600L (Note the rear inside of the door looks like it is brown colored Alligator rather than the outside smooth cowhide on these models)
